Friday Boot Camp and Dentist

So I had a fun time today at the dentist. I got a filling re filled and found out that if I had waited longer to get it fixed the damage would have gotten to the nerve. While in the dentist chair I muttered to myself I will never eat candy again. There is nothing quite so alarming than hearing a drill and smelling burning just to realize its your teeth being ground away.
I guess there are lots of reasons to not eat candy or sweets.  The biggest two keeping weight off and keeping your teeth. The dentist asked me if I drank pop and I said no I don't. Ever since high school my coach has told me never to drink pop and that's basically why I don't. I know its not good for me either so there are two reasons.
I got in a good work out today at the downtown YWCA it was a great day to run outside so we did about a mile outdoors and some other HIT intervals. Tonight I am going to the uptown YWCA to play dodge ball for one of the last times of the seasons before they shut it down for the summer. I have not had much to eat today, half a scone and some peanuts. My tooth throbbing is kinda keeping me away from eating. I may grab a coffee from caribou this afternoon. We shall see, I just hope this darn tooth starts to feel better.

Fluid trainer Tron

Well I did get my spin on, I did about on hour on the fluid trainer while watching Tron with the kids. I have yet to get to my kettle bell today but maybe I will still get to it tonight. Its snowing out right now in my yard. I am going to the twins game tomorrow night and I hope it doesn't snow.

Cardio on the Cybex ARC trainer

Well another day, another pound to lose. I did my workout this morning with the ARC trainer I did 30 min on the cardio setting and took off 600 calories. Then I did some weights and finished up with 5 min on the rower. I skipped breakfast except for a banana and two cups of coffee and instead had a little bigger lunch. I had 12oz of chicken for lunch with some broccoli and cauliflower it was filling and lower in calories that other things I could have had. I  am still fighting to stay away form all the Easter candy that is filling our house.

Tonight I think I am going to watch a movie with the kids and do 30 min or an hour of bike on my fluid trainer. I am also going to do some kettle bells,  I have not decided how much yet but somewhere between 200 and 300 reps of swings and drop squats. I want to keep up the high intensity cardio as along as I can. I have been thinking about dinner, I don't know what to have yet but I need to stay away from pasta which is my wife's favorite food along side rice. I am down a pound this morning from where I was yesterday but I am guessing a lot of that is water weight, but hey it still feels nice to be down a little.
This weekend I have three birthday parties to go to and some other things, I just hope I can control myself with all of the snacks I'm sure there will be. I gave up fast food for lent and then I took my wife and son to McDonald's yesterday for a snack. I was reading the french fries and did you know that a large has 500 calories? Thats more than the 10 piece chicken Mc nuggets. I think thats crazy but it just backed up for me that I need to stay away from fast food, Like forever =).

P90X Gladiator

Well I got a good work out in today but before I left I had 2 small gummy easter bunny's and 3 starburst. Naughty me but at least I didn't eat more.  I ran a mile, did some light dead lifts and 3 rounds with the heavy bag with 2 min rounds and 30 second rests. I also like to add in some row, I do about 5 min of row at about 1100m I have done some TRX stuff and I want to do more but I need to get my own set. One of my goals is to do muscle ups in the near future. Anyway I am on track for weight today now its time to really work on diet and cardio.

Rainy Day in Mn Twins Game Tonight

This is the second time writing this, the first time I hit a button on my computer and it all went away =).
It’s a rainy day in MN the kind of day you don’t really want to do much. I am going to get a good work out in today. I have been a little torn between doing heavy weight workouts and keeping it to cardio. I know you need cardio to lose weight but you also need muscle and you build muscle the fastest with heavy weight bearing workouts. You also burn more calories for  each pound of muscle you have. I know when it gets warmer out I will be on the bike a lot and that will help the cardio. I plan on getting on my bike almost every day this summer.
So today for breakfast I had two organic eggs and to pieces of Ezekiel bread toast  dry (no butter) and 2 cups of coffee. sometimes I wonder if my coffee is making me fat. I had a professor once tell me that the acid in coffee promotes belly fat and that I should drink green tea with lemon. I know I stopped drinking coffee for a couple of months and I did lose weight. But I don’t know if it was from the not drinking coffee or that I used to drink mocha’s a couple of times a week. I have since started drinking coffee again but I drink it black at home with just a little organic skim milk. If I get coffee at a shop I often get a depth charge and have some half and half and honey in it. I said before that I gave up sugar, I did but its hard and I do have a candy  from time to time. We keep honey and organic maple syrup at our house that we use sparingly but we don’t use sugar in anything other than baking and even then not much.
My big thing is trying to figure out what to cut out that will really make me lose weight or how I need to change my workouts to really make change.

Trying to lose some pounds

So here is my first blog post on trying to lose weight. I have gone from Fat to Slim to Fat  again over my life. When  I was little I was thin, when I was a teenager I gained some weight and got a little fat. Then I started into sports and got thin and added a lot of muscle. But what happens when you get done with school, get a job, and have kids. This is my story about trying to lose weight on a day by day basis. I will let you know right off the bat that I am not a slacker and I have tried lots of diets in the past. I am no slacker in the gym either but I have been having a  real problem with losing weight.
When I had my first kid I went from 215 and 4.5% body fat to adding 90 pounds in a year. I took all but about 40 of that off before I had my second but then I gained more and had some little life issues get in the way of my working out.  I am just a normal every day guy who wants to lose weight. As I write this I am in a weight loss contest called the Melt Down  at my health club, I am at 25% body fat, not bad for what I weigh but nothing like where I want to be. Last fall after watching Food Inc I gave up corn syrup in my diet, then I started cutting sugar out as much as I can. This spring we started going organic with eggs, meat, and milk and I don't know what to cut next.
I do a fair amount of cardio and free weights but it never seems to be enough to make me lose much. I have been doing a daily food log and it helps  keep me on track but I do slip off more than I would like on weekends or on bad days at work.
I have 2 kids, live in the burbs, have a dog and a wife that likes to eat a lot of rice and pasta and never gains weight. She lost her baby weight in 4 weeks after both of our kids and needless to say I did not.
