Starting a little slow, Pain getting better with walking - Shakeology and Gladiator to come

Here I am 9 days out from surgery and I am starting to feel like a human again. I was one of the 1 out of 100 who had a really hard time with surgery. Walking and standing has been very painful and picking up my youngest has not been a possibility. I don't want to scare guys off from getting a vasectomy but share a warning. I would take a week off from work not just two days in case you are like me and have a rough recovery.

All that being said I am feeling about 80% back to normal and I am playing dodgeball tonight. I did a great job of not putting on much weight in the week of no exercise. I cut calories and used smoothies and shakeology to keep from over eating.

Tonight should be interesting at dodgeball, I am going to try to not over exert myself. Eric is going to come play, and I have another friend that may come. If You as a reader of my blog ever want to come shoot me an email.

I am going to start walking on the treadmill next week and resume gladiator Tuesday. I am going to wait another week before I start a round of p90X just to be safe. Part of my consult on surgery was that I should not bike for a month because of pressure in a trauma area. I am getting antsy but I will wait 2 more weeks before I saddle up.

Monday -

So the weekend got busy with work and the weather was nice so I worked in the yard instead of updating my blog. Dodgeball went well, there were only 10 of us so it was a very energetic game. Running was a little hard and I was sore the next day but it was manageable. Next up for easing back into workouts is gladiator tomorrow night.  I know I am not going to do any rolling deck squats, nothing that could lead to tearing internal stitches.

I can't wait to get back into training full boar. I feel so energized when I workout , it helps my mood and overall attitude.

I hope your workouts and weight loss is going well.

Keep up the good work.

Vasectomy 250 Pounds Beach Body Coach P90X Shakeology and Zip Lining / horseback riding

I started this blog when I had two kids, and I was 330 pounds as a way to track what I was doing, and share my successes in public.  Over the course of the last three years, I’ve lost 65 pounds, changed my diet completely in favor of clean eating, and am now expecting my 4th child in September.  I write this as I just had a vasectomy yesterday, and will not be able to exercise for the next 10 days.  I never thought we were going to have 4 children, but I know now through the course of writing this blog that I, and anyone, can successfully have a large family and keep in shape as a parent.

My plans for the next year are to keep doing the gladiator class and do high intensity interval training at home.  I will also be doing a lot of bike training for the 300 mile red ribbon AIDS ride that I do the third week in July every year.  I am also planning on running a few short races up to 6 miles this summer.  My eventual goal is to potentially run a half, and maybe a full marathon.  Along the way I plan on getting below 250 pounds partially because that is the weight limit for both zip lining, and horseback riding, 2 things I really want to do.  In order to help other people and to take my weight loss to the next level, I have become a beach body coach and I’m going to start using P90X at home, and supplementing with Shakeology.

A big part of this is because I want to be able to share what I’ve been able to do for myself with other people, and help others lose weight in the process.  I have a very specific person in mind with whom I’d like to help through using P90X and Shakeology.  My friend Eric, who I’ve talked about in this blog before, is in need of some help with diet and exercise.  I really hope through this program I can help him make a positive change in his life.

65 Pounds Down 25% to 20% Body Fat Meltdown 2013 Juice and Sleep Fat Sick Nearly Dead

Well meltdown 2013 is over and it was a success. The thing that I was most excited about at my weigh out was my body fat change. I started 9 weeks ago at 24.8% body fat and am currently at 20.9% body fat a drop of almost 4%. Now I just need to focus on keeping the weight off and losing a little more.  My biggest success was in keeping a food log everyday and working out six days a week. I also made sure I got 8 hours of sleep a night. I can't stress enough how important sleep is for weight loss and overall well being.

There was just an article in the paper talking about how just a week of sleeping 5 hours a night instead of 8 can pack on 2-3 pounds. The article also said the weight didn't come off when regular sleep resumed. This freaks me out a little when I think about having our next child and all the sleep I am going to lose. I am going to try very hard to get my sleep in but as any parent knows a new child means 3-9 months of upset sleep.

During the Meltdown I watched the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. It was an eye opener for me. The main talent did almost exactly what I have been doing. We don't have to recreate the wheel we just have to use it. Taking in fruit and vegetables and cutting sugar out of our diet is not that hard to do.

We just need to do it!

I am not going to the extreme and only drink juice for 60 days but I am recommitting to drinking more smoothies. I make mine with organic Kale, Flax seed, Chia seed, Apple, Banana, Carrot and Orange. I find that drinking this mix gives me more energy than coffee. I use a $50 Ninja I got at Target. I would love to try a Vitamix because I have heard rave reviews of them but my blender works well for me now.

Today I hit my home scale at 264 that was after Gladiator last night and a light dinner. I look back at me at 330 and wonder what I was thinking. I was more tired, more crabby and had to get clothes to fit my bigger size. I will never get that big again!

I am a little worried about the next couple of weeks. I will be having a small surgery that will not allow me to exercise for about 10 days. My plans are to lay low, as I have to, and eat less. I plan to juice once or twice a day and eat a lot of salad and not much meat.

My long term goal is to hit 250 and eventually lose more until my body regulates to the weight I should be at. I know 250 is a goal since many things in life are limited above that weight. I would love to go zip lining and horse back riding but I need to lose the weight first.

After the meltdown I did an indoor Triathlon. I am happy to report I had my best time ever and that was with a cold. I placed 18th out of 54 people, 8th in the bike and 17th in the swim. I want to do an outdoor triathlon soon and am making summer of 2014 my goal.

I hope you are doing well in your workouts and weight loss. It's hard to stay in shape as a parent but we owe it to ourselves and our kids.

Keep up the good work,

Gabe
