I was looking for a job and then I found a job

Turns out there is something to the phrase my kids won't stop saying.

The job is to take care of myself.

As parents we need to take care of ourselves. We don't often do this well but if we don't we end up stressed, sick and unable to parent our kids the best ways we can.

I woke up this morning after a night of tossing and turning. My stomach all messed up and my oldest son walked upstairs looking half dead. He said "can I stay home today?" he had been sick all night and I then realized that I was actually sick. I get so used to pushing through being tired and feeling rough that sometimes I lose track of if something is actually going wrong.

Well 20 minutes later and I was dry heaving into my toilet while my middle son showered and yelled out asking what was going on.

Oh well another day in the life =)

I guess it's not too bad when I am more worried about if I can run tonight with my trail running group or if I still sign up late for the Willow trail run this weekend.

I was listening to A motivational speaker I like a lot and he was talking about the war of life. If we don't stake out ground and keep defending it we will lost what we have gained.

I think this is pretty true when it comes to our health and fitness as parents. We need to keep fighting the battle every day to keep our bodies strong and push off the bad things that will hurt us.

For me it means using the breathing meditaion app on my garmin watch and taking it slow with coffee today on a rough stomach.

I am also starting a new war with screen time in my house. Who knows it I will win but maybe the point is to try?

Like the saying from my favorite movie. " maybe some people just like knowing that someone cares about them even if they don't or can't change to save themselves"

A river runs through it.

Today I bring into the world love for my kids, family, friends and world. I will do my best to be a positive and helpful soul today.

2026 at 225 and keeping fit and self kind as a parent of 4

So I have been at this for some time. The weight loss and the parenting. My oldest is now 23 and I first hit 330 pounds when I was in 9th grade.

What has been the biggest change in my life.

1. cutting added sugar out of my diet.
2. Cutting toxic people out of my life.
3. Adding in exercise any time I can
4. focus on church and other self development groups.

A big part of the journey is also getting my kids into healthy life. The more we as parents do through action the more our kids can follow.

We as parents owe it to ourselves for a long life for us and our kids and family for a long life for them.

I plan to write or vlog more this year. Let me know what you would like to hear about my journey.

Keep living each day as well as you can and take it one positive step at a time.

Cheers,

Gabe
